Privacy Policy

ScoutAway (“we,” “us”) is an AI-assisted travel planning app. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. Questions: privacy@scoutaway.ai.

Information we collect

• Account & profile. When you sign in with Google we receive your name, email address, and profile photo. You may add travel preferences (interests, dietary needs, home airport, passport country) to personalize planning.
• Gmail (only if you connect it). With your explicit consent we read travel-related messages (flight, hotel, and other booking confirmations) to extract trip details. We request read-only access and only process messages that look like travel bookings.
• Google Calendar (only if you connect it). With your consent we read and write calendar events to sync your itinerary.
• Trips you create. Destinations, dates, itinerary items, notes, bookings, budgets, comments, and anything you or your collaborators add.
• Usage data. Basic product analytics (pages viewed, key actions like creating a trip) to understand and improve the product.

How we use your information

• Provide and operate the service: build and manage your trips and itineraries.
• Parse booking emails into structured trip events, and sync your calendar.
• Generate AI itinerary suggestions, recommendations, and trip insights.
• Personalize suggestions based on your stated preferences.
• Maintain security, prevent abuse, and improve the product.

We do not sell your personal information or use your Google data for advertising.

Google API Services — Limited Use

ScoutAway's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically, data obtained from Gmail and Google Calendar is used only to provide and improve user-facing features within the app; is not transferred or sold to third parties except as needed to provide the service, for security, or to comply with law; is not used for advertising; and is not read by humans unless you give explicit consent, it is necessary for security or to comply with law, or the data is aggregated and anonymized.

Service providers we share data with

We use trusted processors to run the service, each limited to what they need:

• Supabase — database, authentication, and storage.
• Vercel — application hosting.
• Anthropic— AI processing. Trip text and booking-email content may be sent to Anthropic's models to parse bookings and generate itineraries. Anthropic does not train its models on this data.
• Google — sign-in, Maps/Places (location and place details), and the Gmail/Calendar access you grant.
• PostHog — privacy-friendly product analytics, hosted in the EU.
• Brave Search — place and hotel lookups.

Data retention & deletion

We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete individual trips at any time. To delete your account and associated data, or to disconnect Google access, email privacy@scoutaway.ai or revoke access at your Google account permissions. We will delete your personal data within 30 days of a verified request, except where retention is required by law.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit. Database access is protected by row-level security so you can only access your own trips and those explicitly shared with you. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (e.g. the EEA/UK under GDPR, or California under CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact privacy@scoutaway.ai.

Children

ScoutAway is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, an in-app notice.
